Hey all,

I was just wondering where you guys get your info on old Mobo's. For instance, I have an old SIS 5595 from a Compaq Desktop of 4 yrs ago (model 5441) and I'm wondering what's the fastest cpu I can put in it. Will it take a high Duron? It currenly has a K6 - 486.

Totally unrelated but I'll ask none the less..... How does it go w/ Ram? Pc100 Ram will only work for Pc100 but Pc133 works in either 133 or 100? Thanks alot for any answers.

If you are running a K6 then, no, a duron won't fit in that socket.

If the board uses PC100 "low density" ram then you may have trouble finding PC133 that will work. Instead try going to a local store and ask for either PC100 ram thats PC66 compatible or BX compatible ram. If it says it can take "high density" ram then PC133 should work.

5595 is just the south bridge, used with Pentium and Pentium-II chipsets alike. Please check again, this time look at what the north bridge (the actual chipset core) is.

Thanks. Looks like it a Gigabyte GA-5SMM. I'm going to search around a bit, but anyone familiar with this board?

As someone else already said, it's a socket-7 board which of course does NOT take any Duron or Athlon. For all other information, how 'bout visiting the Gigabyte web site?

I know I am bumping an old thread, but an old MB just arrived here and its SB is 5595. It is a Gigabyte GA 5SMM board with the SIS530 chipset. I remember hearing that Compaq used these boards.
