Does anyone have a clue as to where I might look to find if the on-board video can be disabled on an old Packard Bell Model 882 desktop computer ?

I have been Googling but have not come up with anything helpful yet.

Thanks.

Wow a Packard Bell that still works?! You may have stumbled across a new record! I haven't messed with PB for years, but they were always pretty resistant to upgrades. It's very likely that you don't have an option to disable it. I'm sure you've scoured BIOS already...

No have not scoured the BIOS yet because I can not get into them because there is NO video being output from the motherboard connector that is why I want to disable it, so I can see if I can get a separate PCI video card to work.

Thanks.

Have you tried a pci video card yet? If not, give it a try and see what happens.

Yes, I have tried, no dice. That is why I am wanting to find out if onboard video can be disabled.

Thanks.

Dear WP,

dude, if the model 882 Puckard Ball PC is the Cyrix CPU model listed in this post, hats off to you, and happy New Year:

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-75...D=3880&messageID=46541

You may have trouble getting any video card to work in it--that thing was obsolete when the Pentium 3 came out.

I looked at this PBull support site, and can't find the 882:

http://support.packardbell.com...menu_desktop&new=false

Here is the NEC replacement motherboard:

NEC Part Number: 151-00020-000

Cool, it's only $427.69. Valuable machine you have there.

And, I hit a dead end there. No NEC mobo support. Dude, for $427, you would think they would do on site service.

NEC support: worth an email to them?

http://www.nec.com/global/support/

Packard Bell Mobo ID page:

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/pb/mb/pbmb1.htm

860: close to the 882, and uses Cyrix CPU:

If the on board video died: might be time to cut your losses, salute your good fortune at having a Packaged Hell PC that actually functioned, and move on....

HTH
