Info on Microsoft Digital Sound System

Ok, I have a Microsoft Digital Sound System (it is a 3-piece speaker system that kicks ass). Anyway one of the connections to the right speaker died so its running only on one speaker and sub. The speaker connection that died had controls the bass/treble/volume on the sound system. The software for it (the one that came on the cd) doesn't work in XP.

So I tried to search for updated software for it on Microsoft's site but I could not find anything. It is like Microsoft denied ever producing that speaker set (which is sad, cause it really is a nice sound system).

Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any info on it or had any updated drivers/software.

Thanks

There's no software for the system in Windows XP because it's built-in using standard USB audio drivers. They abandoned the software once it became plug and play.

I'd say you're up a creek, then, if the one with all the controls is busted. Those are some killer speakers, and they have some of the best bass I've ever heard in any system. The best audio setup I had was the DSS 80 as the front pair and Altec Lansing AC48 Powercubes as the rear pair (with the sub!) of speakers. Now THAT'S surround sound. I could hear things with the DSS 80 that I can't even with more modern speaker systems.

I know. I love that system that is why I don't wanna get rid of it. I'm using it with one satellite speaker, the sub, and a Creative Soundwords PC-Words 3-peice system. The sub on the PC Works doesn't even hold a candle to the Microsoft system. I wish they would continue making this...I woudl buy another one.

There's still a high demand for them, and people have had some luck on eBay. I sold mine to my roommate, and I kinda wish I hadn't. 🙂
