Boxer.

It comes with a 32 meg card.

I have a rio 300 (which I auctioned off). My ideal player has an FM tuner (nomad), voice recording (nomad), and a lot of memory (well, you can't have everything i guess). I was planning to get a nomad eventually, and this was as good a time as any. I really could care less if I could get $200 for something that I paid $50 for, because this is the player that I want, and for $50 (actually, since I got more than $50 for my rio, it was a free upgrade), it was a very hot deal.

For Ripping/Converting MP3s and WMAs, I used Music Match that came with the Player. If you goto File/Convert you can explore to the directory the MP3s are at, choose MP3 on the left, choose WMA on the right, select the MP3s you wanna convert then start it. Takes about 30 seconds AVG per Mp3 to Wma. Firstly my MP3s are at 128, the WMA comes out 96 when converted. And they are a bit smaller, but any 96 file would be smaller than 128. The only problem is you have to use the latest Microsoft Media 7 to copy the WMAs to the Nomad, BUT you can use it to copy MP3's.

Also remember after you flash to the latest firmware for the Nomad you need to format the flash card to get the new format, ability to Use WMA and LongFileNames. THE ONLY problem I have with WMA is that the Nomad II lists everything as (name).WMA. I believe its in the ID tag created by Music Match but I haven't bothered with fighting it yet.

Anyone else have any suggestions, or comments go ahead. I love the Nomad II just to play with, but the Computer still does 99% of my MP3 playing at home.

Anyone see any utils that let you transfer MP3 files from the Nomad II back to the PC? It should be easy enough. What would be really cool would be a tool that lets you use the NII as a SmartMedia reader.

OK, just got it today. I love it but my office pc, where i have all the bandwidth, is NT. Does anyone know where I can get an NT driver for the Nomad? I tried copying files onto my rio and then swapping them over, but they aren't the same format. Any suggestions?

As far as I know, the nomad II is unsupported in NT. You may try to pick up a smartmedia reader (parallel port) for NT. I think Lexar makes one. I am not sure whether the formats are the same though so I can not guarantee that it would work.

I just got my nomad2 today. Im having alot of trouble opening up the battery cover. do you guys have the same prob? I have to open up the entire case with a screwdriver to do it. any good way to open it up? the nomad manager software is very slow at displaying directories. also..this thing eats batteries like fuel, the cheapest NIMH battery charger + batteries i can find is Outpost # 53570 for $15. any better deals than that anyone?

cerebusPu-

The nomad II docking station is about $35 and comes with its own battery. It may be worth a look.

I'm looking to buy emusic gcs. If you have one for sale, drop an e-mail to me holycrap@atari.net.

In thinking about price, remember that I was the one who posted the first Emusic/Nomad thread here. :)

Got my nomad about a week ago. It's very cool. Just bought one of the Mobshop $85 64MB Smartmedia cards. I'm going to bay the $32MB card that came with it for about $55. End result: $80 64MB Nomad II. Not bad at all. :)
