There's a lot of ways to obtain info from the internet. For example, how did you become aware of this email address in the first place? Where'd you see it / how'd you come across it?
 
well, me and this person will soon be involved in a computer related deal and i want to make sure i know how to get a hold of him if something goes wrong with the hardware
 
In a situation like this, I'd try to get in touch with them via phone # anyway... simply ask for it... especially if it's going to involve hundreds of dollars. After you acquire a phone#, you can do a simple reverse lookup for an address.

It'd be a little "shady"of him not to give out some kind of contact info other than an email address these days. 😉 AOL, at that.
