Kid and I had B over turkey day, not too bad. He gets home from a ski trip last Saturday, 1 kid is puking, 1 kid has a 101 fever. 12 kids trapped on the bus, 5hrs going and coming. Mine starts feeling poorly Saturday night and, by Sunday, full cough/I'm dying mode.

Wife takes him to the Doc in a box Monday AM.... Flu. "Here's 3 scripts for tamiflu." Wife was diagnosed with pulmonary sarcoidosis at Christmas (a fine present). "All y'll need to medicate up." Clean freak (me) clorox's, sprays, vacuums, lysol's....and these nasty critters are still touching stuff in my house. WTH, can't they find a hotel? And the crumb carriers are home all day so the sink is full of dishes. Really? Can you people not be self contained? EFF? I get to wipe down the kitchen again.

ATM, I'm bug free. I'm scheduled to get the left bicep tendon fixed on Thursday...unless I have the crud.

And , eff no, we did not get the flu "vaccine." What a joke. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm

Guam it is.

I've gotten lucky so far, last time I got the flu was over 10 years ago. It's crazy how fast that hits though. I was just sitting in my room (still lived with my parents) and got up to go put an empty glass in the dishwasher. I caught the flu right there and then and vomited all over the kitchen, it was the nastiest thing and it was just a chain reaction because just seeing the vomit made me vomit even more. It was coming out at such a high PSI that it came out of the mouth and nose at the same time, creating 3 streams. Rightfully so my mom was annoyed that it happened in the kitchen but it came so fast I had zero chance to react. Was out of commission that whole night and part of the next day. Was quite brutal. Only nice thing about the flu is that it does not last as long as a cold. When I get a cold it drags on for several weeks to a month.

I used to get the flu shot when I worked at the hospital, for the sake of patients, but now I don't bother getting it.

Try boiling pots of water on the stove. Flu spreads more easily in dry air.

I have actually had two Aunts die of the flu in the last week, still seems like a bad joke. I have never known anyone that died of the flu and in the span of 5 days two family members fall to it.

I really don’t understand antivaxers. I’ve had the flu once as a kid, and never again. My occupation requires I get vaccinated against a slew of things including flu, and I’m absolutely fine (probably).

I got the flu last year. Worked thru for two days, down for 3 days, but felt it for another few after that. It was the first time in over a decade I had it.

Got my first flu vaccine this year, last week. I prefer money and overtime pay to the flu...so I hope it works

Flu vaccine is useless this year, they got the strain wrong and as far as I know haven't come out with a new one with the strain thats going around. I don't know why they are still telling people to get the flu shot. It can put your immune system on high alert for the strain in the vaccine and make you more susceptible to the strain thats actually going around.

Man the flu sucks. I got it in college once. Went to the Dr. and they confirmed it was the flu, but a more mild variant or version or something. I still couldn't go to class for a week.

Source? That seems...wrong...

Quick google looks like this year it's 10-30% effective, and may shorten duration if you do end up getting it...not seeing anything about making you MORE susceptible, and CDC still strongly encouraging it this year.

Read a really good report on why dry air is the reason most colds / flus spread during the winter.

Basically your mucus is the skin on the inside of your body. Having cracked and dry skin will cause you to get infection, having cracked and dry mucus allows you to get colds and flus. Normally your mucus traps the virus and expels it from your body safely, if it is cracked it gets into your blood and makes you sick.

Saline nasal sprays, 40+% humidity in your home!!! Be prepared!!!!

When my kids get sick I single-handedly increase Lysol's statewide sales by a good bit. I continually spray a "barrier" between at my office door and none of those crud carrying bastards are allowed in my office for any reason. With 2 confirmed cases of the flu in the house you might want to think about going full hazmat suit or since the house is already contaminated think about getting yourself that hotel room for a few months. Definitely keep doing the humidifier and bottoms up on the Tamiflu. Personally I get the flu shot every year because seriously fuck the flu right in its crudy ass.
