<< The point is, the Galant is NOT a competitor to ANY 3-Series. NONE. Mitsubishi sedans can NOT compare to BMW in ANY way and it doesn't make sense to do so. No matter how you try to justify it, the Galant is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM a competitor to the 3-Series. I don't care what you say about marketing. Hell, Suzuki here in the US tries to put their Gran Vitara XL-7 in the same company as the Mercedes M-Class and BMW X5 with their commercials. NE1 can see that that is just marketing fluff. If you're taken in by marketing, then I'm sorry. >>
What I meant by my post is this:
1. In Finland, Mitsubishi tries to sell (like I said, unsuccesfully) Galant as an alternative to 3-series BMW
2. When you compare the interiors of those two cars, you'll notice that the Galant sucks
Now, I agree with you, I don't consider Galant to be alternative to 3-series. If I were in the market for 3-series car (unfortunately I'm not, don't have the money
<< You are trying to compare the interior of a Galant to a 3-Series. You can't do it! They aren't in the same league. The Galant is an mid-size economy sedan. The 3-Series is a near-luxury sports sedan. Big difference. >>
I compare those two cars because that's what Mitsubishi wants people to do: to consider a Galant instead of 3-series. If they pushed Mitsubishi Colt (a subcompact) as an alternative to 3-series, I would compare them too (that comparison would take about 30 seconds though).
Now, I do have my own standards as to which cars compete which each other. But if some manufacturer tries to push their inferior model as an alternative to their competitors model, I would compare them. Only to find out the truth that the inferior model is nowhere close to it's competitor (that is the case with 3-series and Galant)
In Finland, Galant is not an economy-sedan, they are a bit in the expensive side. If I remember correctly, they cost more than Passats does for example. Starting-price of Galant is a bit below starting price of 3-series BMW.
<< The whole Finland thing is b/c you keep saying "here in Finland." In the whole scope of things, how it is in Finland has no bearing on the simple fact that a Galant doesn't compete with a 3-Series. END OF STORY, NEXT CASE!
It does, because in Finland they try to sell Galant as an alternative to 3-series. So I took a look at Galant, only to find out that it sucks when compared to 3-series.
As for selling Galant as an alternative to 3-series being preposterous... I agree! But you have to go talk to the Mitsubishis marketing-people here
