I never heard of this game until someone mentioned it during the Circuit City liquidation, but I still passed. Then Best Buy had that $10 sale, so I said might as well, it won't hurt if it sucks. Played it this past Saturday and finished the first disc, said I "only" did 12 hours on normal difficulty, so it must only be counting when I'm controlling the characters. I'm about 1/3 (I think) through the 2nd disc. So no spoilers please if you reply.
I just finished Fable 2 after procrastinating on finishing the last 5 hours after 2 months. So when I started IU, it seemed sooooo bland and linear. And before Fable, it was Fallout 3 (I need to eventually start again, never went beyond 9 hours on it), so I'm a little spoiled with the character trait and creation, and the open sandbox.
My goodness, I'm sure someone could finish this game in 10 hours if they removed all the cutscenes! And the worse part is you can't skip the cutscene if you died and didn't make it to the next save point, so you're forced to watch it again...and again...and again.
I found myself wandering around brainlessly trying to figure out what I'm suppose to do next or what the current quest is if I just missed what they said in the cutscenes. About 6 hours into the game, I "found" the Talk action in the menu, then found out if I keep talking to my party member while I'm in the menu selection, they'll tell me what I'm suppose to do next. Doh!!!!
But aside from those negative points, the game is visually impressive. Extremely visually impressive! I'm amazed on how much detail is put into everything in both in game, as well as all the cutscenes. Like all the little details, such as the rings spinning around the moon anytime you look up at it, the carpets designs, the buildings at Kolton...etc. It's all just WOW.
The game has it's great points like the action fighting, magic use, item creation and so forth. I'm enjoying this game more than I thought I would. It seems more like the game was designed to be a movie first, and then you get to do some RPG action inbetween, instead of the other way around. I don't mind it too much as I'm an anime fan so I'm enjoying the story also. I'm surprised they didn't just put all the cutscenes together, box it up and make a movie out of it, and release it.
Seemed like Microsoft just wanted another JRPG under it's belt to attract more RPG gamers to the 360. Did this game sell relatively well? I'm not expecting FF numbers, but hearing very little about this game, and seeing the amount of development, money must've came from some where (MS?) if it wasn't a big seller.
The English voice acting is annoying. Is there anyway to switch to Japanese voice?
