I just purchased (by mistake) some generic 256Mb PC133 SDRAM (16 chips) ...... the modules read "Infineon".
The dealer claims it's CAS 2 and printed on the pcb reads: "Made in USA"

Is this decent quality memory or junk?
It's supposed to be Samsung brand chips, but they gave me the wrong stuff.

Infineon chips are as good as Samsung, but generic modules (brand name chips put onto a PCB by a generic company) may not be great. Often they work just fine, but may not be stable at the most aggressive timings even though they have quality chips on them. If the mistake was yours, the dealer is under no obligation to replace them, but if they had something mislabelled or something else made you think you were getting samsung memory modules, then you should push to get what you ordered.

It's the chips that say Infineon, not the modules (the PCB including the chips are called a module), right? If the chips have something on them like -7E then they probably are good for CAS2 function; if they say -75 then they MAY work at CAS2 but they're not rated for it.

Infineon is the second largest semiconductor company in Europe. Their memory chips are used in memory modules manufactured by companies like Kingston.

Well, not quite. Siemens is no longer Infineon's parent company (although Siemens does have a significant stake in the company). But you probably already knew that.

Infineon used to be the shiznit along with Crucial/Micron back in the heady days of SDRAM before DDR became all the rage.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies!

Lord Evermore,
Yes it's the chips that are marked "Infineon".
I will go to Infineon's site and double check all the markings.
Just wanted some opinions' first.......
Thanks again.

Infineon is a reputable memory manufacturer. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the chips.

The generic PCB is what you will have to worry about. Generic PCBs can often make even the highest quality of memory chips function poorly.

I'd pick Infineon over Micron.
Infineon's chips are made by 0.17 mircon process while Mircon's are made by 0.18 micron process.
Once got a good deal of Viking 256MB PC133 (with Infineon chips) from Amazon, it runs cooler than Crucial's.
