I have a infection on my left toe from i am guessing an in-grown toenail. It hurts like a bitch to bump it but otherwise seems not to bad...Little bit of puss under tip of nail and sometimes slight blood. Doesnt smell nice either.

What to do...

I am thinking I will combat this with:

2x per day soak in epsom salt and clean with soft bristle toothbrush. Then put polysporin on it and wrap in sterile bandaid. Eat alot of Beta-carotene and vitamin c and vit b-5.

What do you all think?

speaking from experience...go to the doc and have the nail pulled and take the antibiotics...you'll thank me later...

I am not gonna lose the toe, it is an infection, people get ingrown toe infections all the time!

Sounds like a plan. If the whole toe starts feelin' bad, go see the doc.

I'm one of those anti-doctor types. I mean if I NEED to go, I'll go, but I'd rather not spend the time waiting for them, only for them to give me the "Take two aspirin and call me int he morning" routine. I can do that myself.

Will you be too lazy to go to the doctor when the infection spreads are starts to destroy your entire toe? Might as well decide now.

It is actually not that i am too lazy to goto the doctor, but I dont have a local doctor and it takes around 4 hours for a minor injury at the hospital...

I try to avoid the doctor because I try and let the bosy fight stuff of itself...but this infection is not going away on t's own...time to step up measures!

That's not going to help if the ingrown nail is still there. You need to remove it. Takes <10 minutes at a podiatrist. I've had mine done a few times. Very quick and simple.

In-grown toenails hurt like a bitch. Just had to deal with one on my right foot two weeks ago. The nurse wasn't very gentle digging that thing out.

Umm...you do realize that before modern surgery and antibiotics people lost limbs and died from things like this right? Get it taken care of before you get gangrene and lose a foot or leg.

Even having done the "home remedy" thing myself recetly, I still think you should hit the doc for some antibiotics.

Infections aren't fun, especially when you can lose body parts from it. It's a simple thing and since you live in Canada it's not like it costs you a lot of $$ for a visit.

That is what they will do if it gets much worse. If it starts smelling bad...you're treading on bad territory...I'd head straight to the doctors. Is lazyness worth losing your toe? Believe me...it happens. 3 out of my 5 sisters are nurses and some of the stories I hear them tell with people neglecting infections is just disgusting.
