I haven't really been in a real accident but here are 3 "incidents":

I have a big car (1998 Chrysler concorde) so manuevering was one of the most difficult things when I first got my licence.

#1
@8pm after work, me and my friend decided to go out to Burger King. I agreed to follow him there (1991 Honda civic dx at the time). We get to the lot, he parks, and I see an open spot so I approach it. I begin to pull in and am at a 45 degree angle to the spot. This old lady with a bunch of geezers in the car with her. starts backing out right next to me and I honk to let her know she is about to back into the side of my car, since I haven't pulled in fully. Apparently, she backed up enough so that when I continue to pull in my car slightly grazes her back bumper. I feel a slight bump and get out of the car and so does she. She makes a fvckin big deal about it even though it wasn't even a scratch on her car (small one on mine). Her husband calms her down and she makes me move my car before she pulls out. BTW her whole right side of her camry was already scratched up from another incident. This really shook me up since I took it as a big deal. Now that I'm older I see that she was partly at fault. Fixed it up w/ polish (very light scratch).

#2
100% my fault. Was in a small underground garage, pulling out I grazed the wall of the opening of the narrow exit, which I had to turn into. Not too much damage, mostly to the door molding and a little dent. Told my dad it was someone else, when I was parked. Fixed it up pretty good w/ touchup.

#3
Was driving down a 2-lane street in the city when a city bus starts to get in my lane in front of me. I get pissed off, speed up to pass him and the light turns red! Hit the brakes like a mofo, ABS went off and I still skidded missing the car in front of me at stop, by maybe half a foot!

Live and learn!

New driver? How about an "Old driver?" My dad just about creamed two suicidal deer on his way back from work yesterday. Chalk up a save to sticky rubber, double-wishbone suspension, and hella sharp reflexes. :D

My close calls:

Dumb minivan drivers. x2.

One in a "left turn + straight" lane decided that she wanted to go around the person in front of her turning left. I was in the right lane back a very short distance. Brakes + Horn + Finger.

Another one. Decided that stopping at a red light wasn't for her, decided to turn right directly into my path. Tire screech as I haul ass to the thankfully open oncoming lane to avoid slamming into her. Brake + Horn + Finger when back safely in my lane.

Kinda similar to the OP's #3...last year some asshole in a huge truck (of which there is no shortage around here) decided at the last minute he was gonna make a U-Turn, except the lane/island area in the middle was nowhere big enough for him. Of course, I stomp the brakes, and, since I didn't think about the fact that the car I was driving at the time didn't have ABS, I start skidding....and stop no more than a few feet behind this guy's bumper. Needless to say I was a little shaken up by that, especially because if I'd hit him, I would have been at fault...

Once I went driving with the Driver's Ed Instructor, and he told me to make a left... I looked right, no one was coming... To my left there was one car coming so I let him go. I started to pull out when the instructor slammed on the brakes. Apparantly there was another car coming from the right that I didnt see. I learned from that one. :)

underestimated snow and heavy passport. approached toll and slowed down... and suddenly started sliding... so on the brakes i go.. ABS kicks in getting me very close to the guy in front of me. lesson here, i hate snow and ice.

heh... new driver in the US. Not used to left-hand drive cars. First day I bought one (the same day I got my license), I was driving around town and take a left turn. I automatically go into the left lane. The fked up part was that the road was a divided road... i.e., I could not shift back onto the right lane right away. Was pretty fking scary, driving against traffic even for 100ft.

I had my license like two days and my dad let me take his Geo Metro :)D) out with a buddy of mine. I turned onto a dirt road and started wrenching the wheel back and forth and floored it. I nearly took out a mailbox. :p

my parents' driveway was along the side of the house. on the left was the house, on the right was a chain link fence. in a two week span I tore the gutter off the house and knocked down the fence post at end of the driveway... oops :) I wasn't good at backing up.

Lemme think...

Hm, only real incident I can remember was a few months ago. I was visiting a friend and on the way back a suicidal bird jumped right under my front passenger side wheel. The bird was no more.

One time I was driving home from work, I was next to this girl in a purple mustang. I slowed down a bit and my front wheels were about lined up with her back wheels and she tried changing into my lane. She realized what she was doing after I hit the brakes and honked my horn, she promptly swerved back into her lane and I passed her to get away.

I've seen lots of stupid drivers though, I've just learned to spot the potential "bad cases" and avoid them. Plus I'm kinda jaded and don't remember half the crap that happens on the road.

I drove home from school and while adjusting the radio, scraped my wheel against the median and totally shredded the tire. It wasn't an ordinary flat, I mean the tire was shredded.

At the time, I didn't have a jack nor the tool to which put on a spare. Also, my parents were out of town and I had no cash to call a toll truck.

So I drove home on 3 wheels and 1 rim. Man, it was like riding inside a jackhammer.

Surprisingly, I didn't damage the rim or axle at all.
