inexpensive & versatile tripod for point-n-shoot camera?

like the title says, i'm looking for a tripod for my Canon A1200 point-n-shoot camera (digital, non-SLR). i was wondering - is the small threaded hole on the bottom of my camera of standard size and thread pitch? i ask b/c there is no mention of tripods or mounting instructions in the product guide. likewise, i'm not finding any info on the mounting bolt size or thread pitch of any of the tripods i've looked at (i've been looking at tripods at newegg for now).

to make things simple, i'm just looking for a tripod that doesn't need to support the weight of bulky cameras, lenses, or other attachments. it just needs to work with my Canon A1200 and have max/min height adjustments of approx. 3-ft/6-ft. i unfortunately don't know anything about tripods, what makes them good or bad, what features are important and which are not, etc. the tripod and the camera will be used for work, not pleasure - specifically home and cabinet renovation projects. any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA,
Eric

I have used the Sunpack 8001UT with several Canon P&S cameras as well as the EOS20D and EOS 5D. It is light to carry, very adjustable, and can handle loads up to 6.6 lbs. As I recall, I paid about $25 for it at a local camera shop.

The threaded hole on camera bottoms is standard, at least on Canons, and the Sunpack quick release adapter fits perfectly.

thanks for the quick responses and confirmations guys. my main concern was confirming size standardization...that, and not getting overwhelmed with choices and options. but given the simplicity of my setup, it sounds as though just about anything will do.

thanks again,
Eric
