Inexpensive upgrade?

Was planning to completely upgrade my current rig (C2D , 2 GB RAM / 4850 (512 RAM)), but the cost shot up to almost $1000 (Rs 60000)
Considering that I am more interested in playing past games (Crysis/WH/FC-3) at fairly high resolution and maybe AC-BF, I was thinking of only upgrading my gfx card to R9 270x (around $250 or Rs 16000) while keeping the rest of the system as is.....maybe upgrade the RAM to say 8 GB.
As I said the focus is to play 'old' games at high res so does pairing C2D with R9 270X make sense?

No get at least a C2Q (8xxx or preferably 9xxx) & 8GB RAM only then pair it with a 270(x) because that C2D will definitely hold you back in most games. Also make sure your PSU is good enough to handle the increased load.

you are flip flopping all over the place. you say past games and mention FC 3 like its old. you then say maybe games like AC BF. and then you again say the focus is to play old games.

if you really want to play all those games then buy a modern computer. you did not even bother to mention your exact core 2 duo but even the best will one of those will struggle in current games. and you probably have ddr2 memory and a 32 bit operating system.

sticking a 270 in there and wasting money on more ddr2 and having to get a new os to still end with crappy performance is silly.
