Inexpensive Teleconferencing?

I'm looking for a teleconferencing solution that will be less than a few thousand in cost, one time expense.

Our telecom department sets up these really expensive solutions, that require dedicated ISDN and complicated hardware. With the advancements in technology, and drop in prices, I can't believe there isn't something better. All of our offices are connected to the main offices with at least a T1, that should be plenty.

Anybody currently using a cheap solution? I'm not talking about Netmeeting and a 10 dollar webcam with 1 frame per second. 😛 It needs to be realtime and handle voice with decent quality. I'm at least looking for a point to point solution, but if there were any that would connect multiple offices that would be cool too.

We use the Polycom products. Very nice and go over point to point lines, as well as public lines if need be.

I've heard that name before, I think we used it in an office many years back. How much is that running you? 😕

i'd recommend choruscall. they provide the equipment, you just call them and set up the conference. its a good solution for companies who want to do teleconferencing, but dont do it that often to make it worthwhile to buy their own equipment.

if its something you do often though, i'd recommend visiting compunetix.

where did i hear about these companies? i work for them 🙂

We also use Polycom over ISDN. Very reliable, although at times we've experienced a few clarity issues with the video over ISDN. But that can be expected.

Both of them?

well, choruscall is a separate division, and here each division is responsible for their own bottom line, so essentially we're like different companies. but choruscall and compunetix work closely together, choruscall purchases the conferencing equipment from compunetix, so there's a lot of interaction between the two.

i'm in software test and development, but the division i'm in handles federal contracts, like providing uber reliable conferencing for nasa missions and military bases and stuff. you could contact me, but i would have to refer you to someone in the sales department anyways... fromwhat you described, i think the best solution for you would be to contact choruscall, it doesnt appear like teleconferencing is an essential part of your business like an MCI or AT&T.
