What would be the better sound absorbing material...that carpet cushin under lining, Card board, cork board, eggcrate foam same kinda stuff you see that comes with your HD's of 1 inch thinkness.
I would think the eggcrate foam would absorbing the most cause of how soft it is and the eggcrate shape will bouce sound off irregularly.
What about the stuff they use in sound studio's the pyramid shaped stuff, or the wedged stuff?
How about a combination on top of each other...cardboard then foam on top of that, or even dynamat(for vibration) - cardboard - foam...hehe that would be sweet! Any suggestions please?

Try that foam packaging stuff from when you get a retail hard drive and try covering that over it. I don't know but it is a guess and cover that with cardboard.

its the same one at quietpc.com
thing works wonders lemme tell ya, biggest dB drop i got out of my comp after adding this.
Though ya gotta be carefull with it since it encloses your HD in box, and builds up heat real fast, i modded mine with a chopped CPU heatsink, with a 80mm (same ole silencer fan) fan blowing over it, keeps it quite cool and brings in new air into the case. Mounted in a 5 1/4 slot flows in line through the HD heatsink and into the main CPU sink then out the back

I was wondering too, I remember seeing a pic of someone using foam.

Hey Gizzo, were you the one with the site with the listing of all the fans and how much air they move and the amount of noise they made? If yes could you give me the link again? Thanks

Right now i've got my case lined up with the eggcrate type foam, it works...well the case was already pretty quiet to begining with and the added foam really wasn't noticable different. But with my next case CoolerMaster 201(gonna mod this bad boy too), wonder if i should go the same route again

Tough URL to remember i forget it myself
