Hi, I am looking for a inexpensive mic for my desktop computer that actually works. Works well. How well? Well, apparently people never have a problem hearing me with my $450 dollar laptop which is NOT considered an expensive laptop. They can hear me 20 feet away when I talk. So something of this quality would be nice but 5-10 feet away without me having to put my mouth on the mic would be nice. Also clarity is key too.

Not looking to spend something crazy like $100 on a mic.

Perhaps someone has some suggestions? It would help a lot.

Thank you.

The problem you're going to get is that any mic does much better with you near it. Sound dissipates with the square of distance and any mic that has decent dynamic range at 20 feet is going to be overwhelmed when you're 3 feet away. You could theoretically achieve your goal by placing an amp between a mic and your computer, but it'll be unusable at close range.

Your best bet is probably a bluetooth or other wireless headset (think the stuff people have for cell phones). That way, you can still hear and be heard as you walk around the room.

I got a Samson C01U for like $30 a couple years ago. Can't find them that cheap now but it's an alright mic.
