JEDI

Lifer
my mobo can do 6channel sound.

i have a cheap POS walmart headphones.

What headphones do 6 channel sound? (is it even possible?)

THX

From what I know, 6 channel headphones are mostly a gimmick and you're better off with a good stereo set. What do you want them for? Playing games?

Yeah, there are surround headphones, but you'd probably be better off with a good stereo pair.

It will be a lot better for music that way, and you can get some great results in conjuntion with certain soundcards to get a surround effect in games.

Also, how much is "inexpensive"? Stereo headphones will defiinetyl sound better for music. And they still work very well with games (I use stereo headphones when I play games).

games and movies.

in games i want to hear, say, footsteps that standard 2channel stereo headphones cant produce.

movies for all that THX sound

I just picked up a set of Zalman surround headphones today. six independent speakers, 3 per side. It's better than my 5.1 speaker set.

RossMAN made a good brand recommendation, although many of their's leak a decent bit of sound and so that can be an issue you should watch out for. I picked up the E3C's for $50, 2 of them actually, brand new, form Brookstone. It took an amazing deal plus an incorrect pricematch (mistake on their part, not my intent), but in the end I was a happy n00b 😀

You can go over to Headfi and see what they have to say.

I think in general, people that are serious about his sort of thing would tell you to get a good pair of stereo headphones and then save up for a card like X-Fi that can simulate surround from stereo. I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to be very good at positional audio.

That said, it's certainly not an option for you if your budget is $50 or something.

Because $50 headphones are low end when you're paying for only two drivers, when you triple that number you can imagine what the quality is like.

Get a good pair of stereo headphones & be happy.
