Well making the switch to Vista Ultimate in the next few weeks - current box I'm thinking won't cut it, I know the MB and CPU could do fine but the Video Card isn't going to cut it. Thinking I'll build a new box instead and maybe convert the existing to a HTPC or something like that.

I've got a dual monitor setup now, one running DSub the other DVI - the DSub is considerably less quality image and bugging me, hoping a dual DVI will solve that issue. And going to a new MB I'll probably end up going PCIe. Don't need the SLI setup, too $$ for my needs. I don't game. I'm anal about sound, want a quiet PC but don't want it overheating either.

What about the XFX PV-T73P-UDJ3 from Newegg?

Any other suggestions?

The XFX 7600GS Passive as said above, is perfect for a vista machine you dont plan on gaming on. Dual-DVI lower-mid-range card at a nice price, but it will run vista with room to spare.

Depending on what you want to spend, I would go with Core 2, unless you want a little more budget in which case I would do an AM2 based computer (get a 65nm brisbane core X2 for lower temps)

For a CPU on a budget, I'd say if you can find an AMD X2 3600+, get that, or an X2 3800+ - I know alot of people will shout "Core 2 Duo" but if it's a budget, and you're not an overclocker, than something like an X2 3800+ is a good buy. Also, it's probably easier to pick up a decent Socket AM2 motherboard cheaply rather than a Core 2 supporting motherboard.

[EDIT] Possibly worth considering a single core A64 3800+ depending on your needs.
