I'm looking to upgrade 2 servers with GigE. 1 is a white box with Intel STL2 Motherboard. The other is a Dell PowerEdge 1400SC. Both are Win2K Server, SCSI U160 and 1GB Ram. STL2 Box has 2x 1Ghz PIII. 1400SC is Single 1.13ghz PIII. I notice that Intel sells 2 single port copper GigE Server cards. Pro1000MT Server and Pro1000XT Server. From the spec sheets I can't see any diff except the controller chip. MT uses 82545 and XT use 82544EI. Anyone have real world experience with both of these ? Any diff in performance and/or compatibility ? Driver optimised for SMP ? Both are about the same price.
