So I just moved to Columbus OH about a month ago... Realizing that Indianapolis is only 2.5 hours away I scored two J stand tickets on ebay for 50 bucks less than face value :) Just wondering if anyone was planning on going?

I went three years ago. AWESOME. If you park near the place, people will try to give you beer or take your beer while you are in the traffic jam trying to park. I drove into a van and I tried to get him to stop, but he was so drunk he rolled up his window and sped off.

When we parked, I was at the first turn and I saw about three wrecks.

If you are in the center area, they dont have stalls on the walls, they have stalls out in the open, so you pee facing each other

and if yer lucky, you can smell danica when she drives by

I went 5 years ago. Pretty cool experience.

Expect to pay for the privilege of parking on someone's lawn, because there is no parking lot capable of holding the crowd at the Indy 500. And expect traffic, because the town of Speedway, Indiana does not have the infrastructure to handle a half million people trying to leave at once. :Q

nah

if your ticket provides for parking you can pretty much trust you will get it. It's safer at least even if it takes longer to get to.

If it doesn't, you wont have much choice but to do what mugs suggests . Pick an establishment/charity lot over someones yard though and drive a beater

Yup, I will be there.

Tips:
Finding a place to park is a pain, LEAVING is a nightmare. If you park really close you can expect to spend a couple hours just getting out.
Check the weather CAREFULLY. I have been ~5 times now and most years it has rained. Some years it has been FREEZING cold, others BURNING hot. Pack both.
If you are there with others make sure they either know the way back to the car or you have an alternate meetup point outside the track because the push of the crowds afterwards can break you apart.

If you want to meet up or anything let me know. FWIW I think our tickets will be nearby (probably a ways closer to the start/finish line).

My friend offered to take me (he's been there with his dad a few times before). I think it'd be a great experience, but I'm just not up for it right now, and with my graduation party the day after (not that that is a good excuse or anything).
