What do you guys use?

This will be "out" in my living room (i.e. not tucked away in a closet). I'm going with an industrial look, but I'll certainly consider other options. I've thought about repurposing an open bookshelf, but it's hard to find something that has the look I'm going for, and is big enough (18" deep, ish) for the Denon AVR.

I actually bought this: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-36inc...4&blockType=G4

but the color really isn't right to go with my dining room table (which is a huge slab of stainless steel). I've seen, like, industrial kitchen shelving, which would be perfect, but it's around $800, and I'd like to spend less than that.

Any ideas?

just searched for that one on amazon and i'm a fan of how it looks. i think that would look fine out in a living room as long as you do some decent cable management.

although, it is mdf, so i'm not sure if that will start sagging over time or not. i know my denon is heavy @ nearly 50lbs.

Since it's going out in the living room, are you sure you don't want something like this. Salamander makes some great stuff, and the synergy line is very customizable. The Archetype 5.0 is also a nice design if you are going for a minimalistic look.

Yeah, my girlfriend was/is a little worried about cables, but they apparently sell a cable management add-on (as well as a backing plate, I think, which would help more than anything.) I do like that other system, but it's a lot more expensive. I also like the "open" look for my bookcases. It's more modern, and lends itself to some interesting bookends and styling.

Sounds like a good fit for a flexi rack. http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/flexye.html

I saw that. If I had the appropriate tools (no space where I live) I'd consider it, but DIY is probably out.

my TV stand is built out of wood
salamander does make nice stuff its just too damn expensive IMO, i know how much 80/20 costs.

also if you wanna go industrial go with one of these http://www.uline.com/BL_3921/Black-Wire-Shelving?keywords=wire shelf

use cable conduit for cord management

the Salamander Archetype 5.0 IMO is pretty ugly and cheap looking for something that costs 250$

I am going to have to -- ahem -- respectfully disagree. If you think the Archetype 5.0 is "cheap" looking, but would actually deign to have wire shelves in your living room, I, uh, don't know what to tell you. I would certainly have full-on REAL stainless steal shelves (or even the Craftsman shelf I linked in the OP) but I don't even think I'd want wire shelves anywhere in my garage, much less my living room.

And the reality is, regardless of the price of MDF, $250 is cheap for a [presumably] reasonably well-made piece of living room furniture that is big enough for a 40 pound Denon AVR. So, yeah....

I'm certainly taking other ideas. Ironically enough, I started watching I, Robot the other day (horrible movie, BTW) and within the first like 90 seconds, I saw what I wanted (everything thing in that movie is brushed stainless/modern/sterile. Big shock.)

That shelf in the back left is exactly what I want. But I'm sure something like that is hundreds -- if not thousands -- of dollars. I've looked at, like, industrial kitchen (restaurant) shelving, and even that starts at over $800.
