the only two of those i know is sigur ros and tortoise. does that mean that post rock is really slow, sleepy music with or without whiny vocals that try to sound like middle radiohead?

(i love radiohead, sigur ros, and aqualung, but am not blind to their, ahem, similarities)

i wouldnt say theyre slow or creepy... just alot more experimental, moody, and...er...textured. explosions in the sky (local band for me) is by no means 'slow'

blood brothers- doctor doctor is one of my favorite songs...

but can't go wrong with entire album : P, my fav are adultery is ripe and burn piano island burn.

the new mars volta cd is amazing, deloused in the conotarium(sp)

bright eyes...it's called lifted, or the story is in the soil, keep your ear to the ground is a swell cd.

cursive is good, the ugly organist and domestica are my favs.

If you like Pavement, check out the Silver Jews. That's an offshoot from a member or two of Pavement.

Also, you might want to listen to moe. Check out the song Rebubula for starters. moe. is an incredible band.

Modest Mouse is amazing download what you can but heres a good sampler

Gravity Rides Everything
Neverending Math Equation
Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine
Dramamine
Paper Thin Walls
Polar Opposites
Lives
Tundra/Desert
When Jesus Christ was an only child

Most of those are from their last 2 full lengths but theres tons of other stuff they are amazing. Some people dislike the singing but thats what makes the band for me.

I'm bringing this one back from the dead again because I just thought of a great band that fits in with that "post-rock" stuff perfectly - Juno. Really good stuff; check them out.
