Vance is doing the morally right correct thing in confronting the Trumps’ criminality. But I fear that in doing so they are going to bring him back from the political precipice. Publicity is Trump’s oxygen. This is going to be giving him one hell of a lot of oxygen. He knows among his cultists, there is a strong feeling that he is under siege because he's always the victim and he's ALWAYS treated unfairly. There will be a strong idea of, ‘"They are trying to get me no matter what". His marks believe that when Donald Trump is attacked, they and their beliefs are being attacked also.

The Mafia used to complain about being persecuted by the FBI too.
I sincerely doubt criminal charges against his company and potentially him or his family help him.

I've read that Trump thinks this helps him for 2024 but given the list of things he thought would help him for 2020 but decidedly did not I'm not thinking his political radar is all that accurate. It's a NY case and he's starved of his biggest social media megaphone. Certainly the MAGA faithful will nod along but will anybody else know or care?

Financially this is likely a problem as he could have blown covenants on his loans, will be even harder pressed to drum up new opportunities while the org is under indictment, and owns a brand primarily located in places that loathe the very core of his being this limiting upside in the recovery.

We may finally get the answer if the former President is willing to throw his kids under the bus.
Leaving Barron out because he’d likely be too young for tax crimes.

does anyone doubt the boys or Ivanka didn’t get the same perks?
Not sure about Tiffany, she probably got something like a parking spot.

Will the President say his kids should have known and claimed this stuff on their taxes.

Always remember Trump is #1. Kids will just have to suffer.

As I was saying

literally lol'd at this part

The former president has asked people around him about the prospect of a casino at his Doral resort in South Florida and has touted the revenue of his golf courses, according to two people who have talked to him but were not authorized to share private conversations. He has “compartmentalized” his business and political endeavors in the words of an adviser, going to his Trump Tower office in New York two days a week, usually arriving on Sunday evening and leaving late Tuesday.

Are these people really THIS stupid or is this some kind of carnival sideshow act at being stupid?

It's impossible for a Trump to say something too stupid for a Trump supporter.

It's actually fascinating from a psychological/sociological perspective. Previous "cult of personality" types have always been good orators, but this guy (and his kids) just throw out word salads, and anything that the supporters don't understand, they just assume it's some kind of 12D chess that dear leader is playing, which makes him even smarter in their eyes.

I think my favorite part is that their argument is essentially the only fair thing to do is to let them get away with crimes.

Nope and without sounding like Moon b-
When greed is so off the scale a normal person can’t understand it. We have heard about the business short changing businesses who sell them fucking drapes & curtains. Improperly handling CANCER KIDS monies.
Taking money from the top fucked up tier of the Trumps is literally the same as poisoning them, it literally causes the same pain upon them.
I highly doubt Jr sees a difference and if given the choice he’d choose to be plutonium poisoned vs loose his money.

The family is very, very sick.

There is no chance every outstanding loan to the Trump companies will be called in all at once and even if they were they’d simply be a chapter 11 style bankruptcy and most of the money owed would be forgiven.
Yes it could happen as written but no it won’t happen as written.

They would have no hope of getting repayment on their loan if Trump's ability to leverage his assets is completely stripped. For sure they would go this route. It's the only way they get any compensation in return.

Rendering the Trump's destitute may well be the best thing we could reasonably look forward to on this front.

You know, I get that this whole thing probably won't land Trump in jail unless Wiesselberg turns on him, but I can't imagine his lawyers are loving this sort of thing:

It's also why it's a shame we never saw him give testimony for the impeachment hearings or will see him give testimony in any future trial. God, would he be unable to resist a "you're damned right I ordered the Code Red" moment (only more pathetic).

Saying it wasn’t possible to know if it was illegal is ever so slightly undercut by the fact that his company kept a secret ledger for these payments.

Trump: Let's keep meticulous records of my company's rampant tax crimes, some of which I will later unprompted admit knowledge of in public, because that's the most important consideration here.

Basically anybody else:

While I agree, even the claim “to pay for grandkids college” is outlandish, does anyone know face to face kind of know a person who has a job that pays for their grandkids education as a benefit?
Crazy talk on the face of it.
Deplorables eat this shit up so it doesn’t matter.

I don't think Trump's supposed lack of knowledge about what you have to pay taxes on is going to work as some sort of defense here, especially when he and Trump Org cheated and hid millions of payouts not only to officers of Trump Org but to family as well I'm sure. Pretending not to know that miscellaneous income over $600 is not taxable. Sure.

Supposedly he knows more about taxes than anyone in the whole world.

Jim Acosta Digs Up Old Trump Boast That Doesn't Sit So Well With His Latest Tax Excuses

"
The CNN anchor played a clip from May 13, 2016, in which Trump said: “I think nobody knows more about taxes than I do, maybe in the history of the world.”

“I understand the tax laws better than almost anyone, which is why I’m the one who can truly fix them,” he also said in October of the same year, bragging that he used those laws “brilliantly” to pay as little tax as legally possible.

It’s a good thing trump org has Eric trump acting as a de facto spokesperson for trumpco, or else things could really get ugly

I see Eric has finally inherited the Trump fish face pucker.

The Trumps are still in the political mind set. Where the most important court is that of public opinion. Unfortunately for them, the judge isn’t going to base his decision based on a belief that the Democrats are worse.

Interesting defense…He defends himself by saying, basically, that “nobody knows” what is taxable and what isn’t or if anybody ever has to pay tax on anything at all. Tax laws are complicated, and nobody really knows what they’re all about, so really, there is no need to follow them at all. Basically, arguing that he can do what he wants, since he’s too stupid to understand anything. This HAS worked for him in the past.
