India's last active volcano erupts on Andamans

Port Blair: India's last active volcano, in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, has erupted in the aftermath of the huge earthquake that set off tsunamis killing thousands of people, official sources said on Thursday.

People have been evacuated from Barren Island since the eruption began on Tuesday night and there were no reports of injury.

Lava was flowing out of the rim of the crater which towers above the Indian Ocean some 500 metres (yards) away, the sources said.

the sad thing is that a lot of the ancient tribes, who have no contact whatsoever with the modern world may have perished. I posted about this in P&N. its so sad really

also there are claims that 1 out 3 people on these islands are missing, but others say its 1 out 5. either way its huge

makes sense though. That rift has to release all that energy somehow.

does anybody have a link that shows the tectonic plates and the most active fault lines? Like a computer model that shows all the most stressed faults? And what kind of a fault was it (you know, over/under where one is being shoved under the other or where two meet and just push upwards)
