India is offering military backing.
Ok, so now everyone can stop bashing everyone in the middle east.
India has always been good friends with the US and is helping us out now..

Huh? India isn't even in the Middle East. Also, the US and India didn't have the best of relations in the 80s. Definitely not the best of friends, but not enemies either.

Heck ya... that's not a surprise. India has an excellent relationship with most of the world... only people they have a problem with is Pakistan.

How will this affect relations with pakistan? India and Pakistan don't always see eye to eye.

They are two countries away from Afghanistan..
I know they have problems with Pakistan(land disputes)..which unfortunately is the country between them and Afghanistan. And currently Pakistan has given their support verbally they just have not agreed to what extent.
One of the requests that Powell made was letting the US fly over and to close their borders to the Talibans. They have yet to decide if they will though...the US has hinted at ending or lessoning the sanctions on Pakistan for setting off the nuke a few years back too..

We have India, so all we need is Pakistan..

We do have Pakistan, and to my understanding, considering I'm Indian, India and Pakistan aren't part of the Middle East. Both India AND Pakistan are directly connected to Afghanistan. Map
India's border is significantly smaller than Pakistan though, so Pakistan is more important for entry, India for army.

actually, this might solve some of the fighting over the Kashimir region, if Pakistan and India unite against Afghanistan.

Also, i thought that i read that China has given the US it's blessing, and has offered to help?

What kind of bothers me about Pakistan is that it is only weakly held by the existing conservative gorvernment. The radicals there are strong and my have the ability to seize power I believe. Since Pakistan is nuclear capable, this should be considered.

I don't think we're going to have Pakistan. During the Gulf War, the government took a boatload of heat for letting us fly over and I heard on the news today (yeah, I know the news hasn't exactly been reliable lately) that the Pakistani militia was considering protesting if the government signs off on any kind of support for the U.S. efforts.

Some reporter said the Taliban was supported by well over half of the Pakistani population.

Good news about India though.

I really don't think China would have a problem with it. Especially since the Talibans destroyed all those two thousand year old priceless Buddha statues.

Like it or not they have no tolerance for any religions but their own.

As an American of Chinese descent, it would really make me happy if China offered their full support -- including ground troops. Can you imagine having to face an additional 1 million man army? Unfortunately, I doubt this will happen. I think they are just offering their support and approval -- but no military support.

I dream of a future where all the countries are friends of the US. Hopefully, in the future China will become a free democracy and join us. I also would like to be friends with Iran -- I think we need to apologize to them first for our past actions. During my school years, I became friends with a few Iranians/Persians and I think highly of them. Hopefully they can be our friends in the future and become a moderate and stable force in the Arab/Muslim world.

Course they are. Those taliban bastards bombed Indian monuments last year. Irrepacable major ones.

Communist China doesn't care about Buddism either. But they too want to get rid of their problem with terrorists.

I trust India, it's a democratic country. I don't trust Pakistan. Pakistan is ruled by a general who overthrew his government. While this guy is very ruthless, he doesn't like the Talibans, but his secret police supports the Talibans and bin Laden. To make the long story short, there are some government branches (the army) will support us, but others such the fundamentalist clerics are against us, so are the secret police. I don't think the general population have a warm feeling toward us either.

It's interesting that people here classify Pakistan as a US ally. Pakistan is in the process of remaking their entire government with Taliban leaders. Even worse is the fact that many of Bin Ladin's terrorist camps on located in Pakistan near the Afghanistan border.

Everyone goes on and on about Bin Laden and Afghanistan, but only a small portion of his efforts are located there. Most of his camps are split between Takjikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and he also has some presence in Iraq. The unfortunate thing is that Afghanistan and Iraq will be wiped out, but Pakistan and Tajikistan will almost assuredly continue to pump out terrorists. Even if Bin Laden is captured a new leader will undoubtedly rise in his place.

Middle east

Yes someone here does need some geography lessons, because according to this map...neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan is considered a part of the middle east either.

All it is is a technicality, it's close enough to me..India to me is in between Asia and the Middle East. You can make arguements either way...
