Indianapolis to shut down Tuesday because of cold temperatures
INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis city government is shut down Tuesday and will operate on a two-hour delay Wednesday because of the extreme cold.
In a brief news conference Monday, Mayor Greg Ballard said he made the decision as Indianapolis faces temperatures expected to dip to dip to about 15 below zero by Tuesday morning.
The mayor urged everyone to check on their neighbors, with a focus on the elderly and disabled, and asked pet owners to check on their animals.
A travel watch is in place in Marion County, and there will be no trash pickup through Wednesday.
