His comments were certainly not appropriate, though I do think the police should do more to make sure the idiots protesting don't interfere with people going about their actual job.
Booting him out or an unpaid suspension seems appropriate, but I do agree with him on one point that it can be a very dangerous slippery slope when you start firing people for expressing their views. Political correctness has a habit of growing wildly out of control with this kind of stuff.
