Unions have brought about a lot of positive change for middle class workers in this country.

Ask yourself this question. Why were unions created in the first place?
Before unions were legal they brought in the Police to shoot workers who wanted basic human rights.

All workers have the right of a union in Germany and the workers union has a seat on the board of directors. It is the only capitalist country that works.

Why can wal-mart pay poverty level wages? Because the workers are not allowed to have a union.

fail
they pay poverty level wages because people choose to work for poverty wages and there is no shortage of high school dropouts.

Why should a union get a seat on the board unless the stock holders vote them to the board?

I have nothing against people unionizing. What I have a problem with is a government that makes laws forcing unions.

You take away the Unions it would be a matter of time where every blue collar work would be making minimum wage and if the GOP got their way to eliminate the Minimum wage then we would turn into a 3rd world Country.

I call pure bullshit. i would love to see real proof of this claim. care to back it up?

Part of what unions do is promote worker safety.

One non-union shop I worked in, we had to supply all of our own safety equipment - ear plugs, safety glasses, gloves, pay 100% the cost of our boots,,,, everything.

When you are having to fork out $100 every 3 - 4 months just for boots, plus gloves, and stuff like ear plugs, the money starts to add up.

my companies mfg floor supplies all saftey equipment, ear/eye/latex gloves. you just have worked for some shitty non union shops.

another thing, you die hard union guys just dont know when to quit with the entilements. You expect the employer to do everything for you. its like you guys are spoiled brats gimme gimme gimme. and you wonder why unions are on their way out. they are old, outdated and can not survive in our modern time.

You may consider it fearmongering in your own mind and you have the right.

Do you make good money flipping burgers at McDonald's?

You are so hilarious when you're losing. I'm quite sure I make more a year than you do and don't have to belong to a union to do so. My pay is in line with engineers with 25 - 30 years of experience even though I don't have a degree.

With wages only controlled by market forces, slight changes in unemployment would cause drastic changes in wages. There's also a power imbalance because an individual needs a wage more than an employer needs a single worker.

Uh there is a balance. You trade your work/skill for $ with the employer. One can not work without the other - period. Slight changes in unemployment does not nor would not drastically change much at all. Small changes maybe but "drastic" - not even close.

I support the legislation, however measuring the impact is going to be difficult, seeing as how it passed concurrently with the Super Bowl coming to town. Differentiating the 5-10 year impact of each is going to be difficult.

Idaho is the best modern case, and it shows a general correlation between passage of the law, and increase in all relevant positive statistics. Lower unemployment, higher wages, less poverty, etc., especially when compared with its non right to work neighbors.

If a worker doesn't want to join what's stopping them from finding a new job?
If a worker wants to join a union, what's stopping them from finding a new job that is already unionized or creating their own union shop business?
