If you look at every other times, they all end in :15. But the indian timezone ends in :45. Why's that?

Because you were looking at it at 15 after the hour.

They all say 23 and 53 after the hour for me.

India wanted to have one time zone across the whole of its land. Rather than picking either GMT+5 or GMT+6 and having daily events like sunrises and sunsets exceptionally early/late on different edges of the country, they split the difference...

If America wants to have one time zone, what will it be?

'tis the truth

it is kind of annoying when i travel there ... going in august, 12.5hour difference is going to kill me the first few days

Oh ... for all of us Indians, IST (Indian Standard Time) is really easy to remember:

2 hours late

/joke only a few people will get

Its not a constant, it varies from person to person and from day to day ;)

True true, but we held my dad's 50th bday party a few years ago and said on the invites "6pm" so that people would get there between 7:30 and 8:30 :p

This is a western concept as well. My family was invited to a wedding anniversary party 6 years ago (our first invite to a party in North America) and we showed up there at 7:30pm (invite was for 7). Needless to say, we were alone there with the hosts till about 9pm. We thought we were late and rushed all the way there ;)

Time is determined by your position anyways. If you move due west at roughly 1000 mph, time will stand still.
