My parents will be visiting India (south) for about 3 months and asked me a few tech questions. I haven't been there since I was 2 years old, so I have no idea. Can anyone answer these questions?

1. Laptop - U.S. based toshiba - do they just use a 220 converter, or is this a bad idea?

2. Accessories - buy here or there? I'm not sure how much things cost - should they buy a lcd monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc here or there

3. fax machine - they'd like one there, is it the same phone system?

Thanks!

<---- Just got back from India last month

Just use a plug adapter for your laptop, should be fine but double check to make sure its 110-220. My 5 year old T43 is so i'm pretty sure you're ok

Accessories are "cheaper" there but vastly less choice or whatnot, its best just to get things here if you can transport them safely.

No clue on the fax, I think its a different phone system there anyway.

buy the hi-end shit here ... ffs dont buy a mouse to lug all the way there

the fax machine should work but it's easier to install fax software on the computer and plug in the phone line in the modem jack

and a LCD monitor for 3 months? wtfbbq - just buy a laptop with a 17" screen then

Buy the adapter there (Indian -> North American). I took my laptop to India last year and the charger is 110-240V so nothing else was needed to recharge the laptop. My uncle had the adapter but I can't imagine it being more that 50Rs.
