An Indian-American woman said she was questioned by California police after she asked to buy some ammunition for her AR-15 rifle.

Sim Sangha, a 24-year-old firearms instructor from Fremont, asked an employee of Dick’s Sporting Goods about buying eight boxes of ammunition for her military-style rifle, reported KNTV-TV.

Two days later, police visited her home for questioning after that store employee alerted them.

“I don’t know if it’s my skin color or that I’m Indian,” Sangha said. “I’m not a Muslim, but even if I were, that’s no reason to call police to my home, instantly.”

Sangha, who is preparing to join the Los Angeles Police Department, did not buy ammunition for her rifle — which is the same type of weapon used by a Muslim couple earlier this month to kill 14 co-workers and wound 17 others in San Bernardino.

She only bought an exercise mask at the sporting goods store, and she believes she was racially profiled.

“They singled me out because of the way I look,” Sangha said. “I’ve had friends buy bulk ammo, and they’ve never had police show up at their door.”

Police said the officers apologized to Sangha, but a spokeswoman for the department said they had a duty to investigate activity that residents considered “suspicious.”

The police spokeswoman said officers were on heightened alert following the mass shootings in Southern California, which investigators have linked to Islamic terrorism.

Conservatives have said “political correctness” prevented a man working in the couple’s neighborhood from reporting his suspicions about Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik because he did not want to racially profile them.

Republican officials and candidates have proposed outlandish measures — such as banning Muslims — in the wake of those shootings that has helped spark a wave of violence, threats and harassment against Muslims in the U.S.

They have also bitterly resisted calls for additional layers of scrutiny or restrictions for buying guns and ammunition — although Sangha’s experience could test the limits of their resistance.

Pro-gun proponents may have additional opportunities to express support for limiting access to guns — at least for some people — as more Muslim women decide to take up arms to defend themselves against Islamophobic threats.

So as soon as minorities start buying AR-15 ammunition, America is on heightened alert but when you are white, don't worry, buy as many as AK-47s that you want and you won't hear anything from the government?

What a disgrace.

Racism in plain sight.

Ya but dude, Islamaphobia doesn't exist, because someone said so.

Mass shooting after mass shooting can occur and certain people are ok with it, but once a Muslim is involved it's the worst tragedy ever. It's not that people die, it's only when Muslims are stealing targets. Apparently.

Leave more AR-15 and ammo for angry and paranoid white males, they never shoot anybody.

They did nothing wrong. They were informed and they followed up on it just like they are supposed too. They didn't drag her off to jail or beat her.

Racial profiling... OK who cares.

8 boxes = 160 rounds and people are getting nervous? LOL.

I am so glad that I live in a free state and not some nanny "government knows what best for you".

You know, there have been a lot of batshit crazy white dudes who have shot up the fucking joint, maybe we should racially profile white dudes who love guns? I'm sure you'll be screaming about it if that happened. Interesting how you don't care too much about the 2nd amendment when it's a POC buying ammo.

No, I wouldn't scream about it.

Obviously not racists.

No more than anyone else. Everybody is racist to some extent.

The police did nothing wrong. It sounds like they just checked it out. There is nothing wrong with that.

Another stupid post by OP.

I've been hassled by cops on numerous occasions when I have done nothing wrong, and I'm an average white guy. Guess what, white guys get hassled by cops too. So what? Sometimes cops have to do their job.

It's getting tiresome hearing the morons in here bitch every time they think a cop stepped over the line with a minority, as if white guys get a pass.

Here's the difference...white guys don't make a bitch post every time a cop hassles them.

Racial profiling... OK who cares.

People who don't have the privilege of being white.

Im sure Dick's wasn't alerted by white men buying ammunition after Dylan Roof did his deed....or Adam Lanza...or the white guy who shot up the movie theater in Colorado...and the white guy who killed three people at PP.

If I were in a building being evacuated say from a shooting and a white male were the one suspected and I was pulled out of those exiting because I'm a white male, I don't think I would mind such racial gender profiling, but if I were a black male who had been pulled over countless times in my life just because I'm black I think I would mind a great deal. What you do is judge others without thinking about what it may be like to walk in their shoes. You engage in low level thinking.

Apparently nobody was alerted when Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik bought ammo either.

White privilege?

Examples pls. You've had cops go to your house and question you over a purchase you made?
I was sitting in a bus station in Jacksonville, FL with a bunch of other people. A cop came along, apparently decided that he didn't like the way I looked, and began to question me rather aggressively. He even began searching through my personal belongings (probably illegally, though I wasn't informed at the time).

During that time I was making my first trip to join the Air Force. The cop was a douche; not the first one I've met. However, the vast majority of cops I have met have been great people.

The focus on cops in this forum is a focus by assholes, idiots, and anarchists. And there probably isn't much of a difference between those three.

Like they're supposed to do what?

Investigate when there is suspicion of a crime or investigate every activity that residents consider "suspicious"?

Racial profiling exists and many times makes for good policing. To pretend otherwise is naive. If a white guy goes driving down MLK Blvd in the middle of the night the police will profile him, even if he's just going to a buddy's house.

Because you have no defense, you try and create a strawman pivot argument blaming someone else - namely the cops here.

I didn't rail about the cops in my OP. I railed about the issue.

When everyone in our country enjoys the 2nd amendment.. why can't she can't enjoy it as well? Why is it she even getting reported to the police?

Can you answer that? No you can't because this is exactly the rhetoric that is being incited by the GOP clowns which it's followers blindly believe..

Mongrel is right.. nothing to see here.. we already know what's going on.. and the deniers are busy creating strawman arguments.
