That's good food actually as rats will not touch poison.

If the rat stays too long under the heat lamp it will be the special of the day

Klaus: Wha's for afters?

Mother: Rat cake, rat sorbet, rat pudding, or strawberry tart.

Klaus: (eyes lighting up) Strawberry tart?

Mother: Well, it's got *some* rat in it.

Klaus: 'Ow much?

Mother: Three. Rather a lot, really.

Klaus: Well, I'll have a slice without so much rat in it.

Had a friend who went to Bangalore for three weeks. He was anxious about food/drink the entire time he was there (but didn't get sick). Of course the place he was staying at had a private cook and filtered water and he didn't eat anywhere else.

and are one of the few nations in modern times to have experienced an outbreak of the plague

Over 80% of United States plague cases have been the bubonic form. In recent decades, an average of seven human plague cases have been reported each year (range: 1–17 cases per year).

lolololol america is so backwater nation that they get plague

(mind you it's not 600 cases, but it exists in the US.)
