Yeah, I've seen it before.

Think of it as turning military hostility between nations into sport and performance.

Friendly competition is what keeps the states in the U.S from turning against each other 😀 Same thing. Better weird looks and moves than bullets and missiles flying across the India-Pakistan border.
 
You can just imagine the progression that led to this. One asshole guard decides to step a little higher one day and his counterpart decides to one up him and it all snowballs from there.
 
I've been to that. It is very interesting, there is a section for tourists so you have a crowd of white people taking pictures of brown people yelling at eachother. Then the soldiers take pictures with the soldiers afterward.
