formatting when SP2 comes out, they change it any in SP2?

Really depends on your usage. If you use the search feature alot and want indexes bulit (so you can search within files quickly, for example) turn it on. If you don't search often, turn it off.

I say nay... usually.

you should index if you...
...run a server (i.e. corporate ftp or web)
...have 100k+ files (mft entries) and search alot
...are impatient
...are not a power user/gamer
...do not value your cpu cycles

you should definitely not index if you...
...hate seeing 3% cpu and disk usage at idle
...dont perform many searches and think that maintaining a large database of your files is dumb since the MFT already provides one
