Indeo codec from win 98 to win xp

The Indeo codec is no longer available in Win XP SP1, they have to be downloaded from Ligos.com for a fee. However, my system is dual-booted with Win 98 and Win XP SP1,
can I copy the relevant codec files from 98 to XP, and are there any registry changes ?
The Ligos website states that installing XP SP1 over 98 leaves the codec untouched and usable, but clean installs of XP SP1 will not have the codec.
