Incrimental upgrade options?

I've got a still strong socket 478 system but a new job has got me itching for a little more. Current: P4P800 SE, 3.2 p4, 2gb ram, 6800 128MB.

I've got two paths, roughly: A) Swap current 6800 128MB card with 6800GS or greater, for a difference of about 20-40 dollars after selling old card, or B) Craigslist local has an Asus P5DL2-VM 945G motherboard for $75, probaby 50 or 60 after haggling. Going this way, I'd get a D 805, and the video card and RAM that I'll use with my C2D/Bearlake build early next year. I'd have to sell most of the guts of my current computer though to try to close the difference.

For the second method, it'd probably put me down more like 100-150 dollars. I do want the better onboard sound, and a 7600GT silent pipe from Gigabyte would be very nice, and would carry over to my new system in the spring.

Is it wasteful though? It would be easier and cheaper to just go for a better AGP card right now, and hold out until the spring. Thoughts?

256MB video card, better/more compatable sound.

I guess it is sort of silly to swap most of my components for ones that don't really give much of a performance boost, doesn't it?
