Hey guys... so we purchased A Gateway DX4200-09 Desktop computer a little over a year ago and I've made a few mods to it over time. I added an MSI Radeon HD 4670 512MB card and an Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 tuner. I also needed room for the GC, tuner, AND my wireless adapter, so I had to replace the motherboard and purchased a Foxconn A7VMX-K MB.

Okay, now I'm faced with a little bit of a problem in the fact that the fan is WAY too loud. I fiddled around with some of the BIOS settings to see if I can get it to quiet down, but to no avail. I don't really know much about the temp/fan control settings, so I figured I'd see what ATGH has to say about this one. Below is a youtube video of the settings I have available to me and I'd really appreciate any advice or input. Like I said, I'm just not familiar with temp/fan settings and what they should be.

Replace the loud fan with a quieter one... If it's on the motherboard you can bypass the mobo settings by plugging the fan into a fan controller or a 7V fan adapter.

Quieting down a noisy computer is always a headache as the chances are it won't get that much quieter without fairly drastic upgrades (water / case + psu + pretty much everything).

In your case I believe I see an 80mm case fan, which is trickier to get quiet and also move enough air. The HSF can be replaced with a more substantial unit but it doesn't appear you have tons of room, so it is debatable what you can fit. From what I see there I'm not convinced the TX3 will fit, if the case fan is an 80mm. But these are the two places to start.

If might help if you could confirm the case fan size, and also measure the available vertical room from the CPU socket.

Your video seems to indicate that the problem is the CPU cooler fan. That might be best resolved with a new cooler and fan assembly. The case fan is off to the left in your videdo, and there is one more - inside the PSU.

A TX3 is substantially smaller than 120mm coolers of similar design. From personal experience, it should fit into the OP's space no problem. It's about the same height as a full-height expansion card. The fan might overhang the DIMM area a bit, but he doesn't have tall heatspreaders (or any heatspreaders for that matter!), so that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks guys... I'll be giving SpeedFan a shot to see what results I get. I have indeed ordered the TX3 and measured to be sure it would fit, and it looks like it shouldn't be a problem. Until I am able to try both of these solutions, keep the suggestions coming. I appreciate all the help.
