Here we go again with Sandra info that defies logic. :Q

Sandra version is the latest one from Fosi, Sandra 2005 Pro SR2a v2005.7.10.60, and mobo is a Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro: http://gigabyte-usa.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-8I945P%20Pro.htm. This is new PC for a customer, everything is installed and it's working fine, and otherwise ready to ship...except for this. Get a load of these voltage readings!

Voltage Sensor(s)
CPU Voltage : 1.23V
Aux Voltage : 1.90V (Supposed to be 2.5v!!) (UPDATED Post: this is ok, it's the Vdimm for DDR2 which is 1.8v default and I have it bumped by .1v).
+3.3V Voltage : 3.26V
+5V Voltage : 6.85V
+12V Voltage : 11.54V
-12V Voltage : -9.48V
-5V Voltage : -6.41V
Standby Voltage : 6.85V
Battery Voltage : 4.08V

(I ran AIDA32 and it only shows the CPU, +2.5v, +3.3v & +12v lines. NONE of the - rails! It confirms the 1.90v for the 2.5v line! It shows the 3.3v as fluctuating 3.25-3.28v and 12v also fluctuating 11.7-11.9v. The 1.90v for the 2.5v is stable).

Using a volt meter on one of the power connectors, I get 12.17v for +12v; 5.25v for +5v, so I'm wondering if something is wrong with the VR on the mobo since these are so different from what's reported above. More so I'm wondering if something is wrong with the VR on the mobo because of what's in bold above!

It also doesn't even list "Board temperature" NOR "CPU Temperature" in this Sandra module! It only lists:
Temperature Sensor(s)
Power / Aux Temperature : 34.0°C / 93.2°F td

I tested the voltage on one of those "supplemental" power connectors that hook to a mobo that doesn't have the square 4-pin P4 12V AUX connector (these are flat and 5 pin) and on it I get 3.38v orange and 5.28v red. I think those are about right, but again way different from what's reported. Does anyone know any voltage taps on the mobo where I can check these voltages? Can anyone please check these areas in this version of Sandra that's using a Gigabyte LGA775 945P mobo? If others are getting these strange readings, then I think it's safe to say it's not the mobo.

I installed this Sandra version on my PC (Asus mobo setup under Rigs below), and on it Sandra DOES list "CPU Temperature" AND "Board Temperature", but no "Power / Aux Temperature" which I assume the Asus mobo doesn't have that probe. But, the brand new Gigabyte certainly MUST have all of these sensors!

Another thing: For a DVD-ROM drive installed, Sandra is saying the transfer mode of it is only SWDMA0 (UDMA0), and above that area it says it's UDMA 2 capable, and below that in the "Tips" area it says "Current mode not optimal. Check settings".......and of course, no place to check them!! There's nothing in the BIOS pertaining to this, nor any area in the (XP Pro) Device Manager to change them! It's hooked up to the only Native IDE controller as a Master, which is ATA/UDMA100.

Furthermore, it's reporting the Plextor 712SA (SATA) that's hooked up to one of the SATA connectors as only UDMA5! These are SATAII connectors, and it should be showing at LEAST UDMA6 and according to the Sandra FAQ's it should be showing "UDMA/ATA X"! "UDMA-x = ATA150 (Serial ATA) - Max 150MB/s (PCI64/66/X recommended)". (On my PC, it's showing my WD740 Raptor as UDMA 6 which also is not correct since that means it's only ATA133 according to Sandra http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=qa&location=det_disk&langx=en&a= ).

BTW, I ran the Web Update Wizard on Sandra and it said this is the latest version! If anyone needs it you can d'load the Pro version here.

Comments, info, please!

I noticed something else. In the "Mainboard" info module of Sandra, under the memory info, it says PAT (Performance Acceleration Technology) is disabled! So how is this enabled in the BIOS? I don't see this area anywhere.

I tried HW Monitor and MBM; MBM isn't supported and on HW Monitor I'm still showing frightening figures of only 1.90v for the 2.5v line, which I THINK is "Core 1" and "Core 0" is the CPU Vcore. So I still can't find out what this 2.5v line denotes exactly. Is that DIMM voltage??? Again, I show the same 1.90v in Sandra and AIDA32. AIDA32 is very old and it could be "confused" by this mobo. Sandra could be too.

I'm showing "red" for the CPU's voltage "Core 0" and that 2.5v line "Core 1" in HW Monitor. It's flagged read meaning I assume that something is wrong with it. But the CPU Vcore is where it should be for a P4 640 LGA775. However I can't find ANYWHERE what the damn voltage SHOULD be. The box only says "1.4v Max" and the mobo defaulted to about 1.25v. I raised Vcore by .1v and both voltages are still flagged red by HW Monitor. BTW, HW Monitor is here: http://www.hmonitor.com

Ok, thank God I got this "Core 1" and 1.90v figured out. This is the DIMM voltage! Obviously, all of this HW monitoring software, (including Sandra, AIDA32) is too stupid or too old to realize that DDR2 is only ~1.8v default. It still thinks the memory should be 2.5v for DDR so it's reporting it as being low, when it's not.

Now, I still need to figure out what's going on with the ridiculous negative voltages showing, the +5v and the standby voltage as mentioned in my first post.

Anyone...please? How 'bout the fact this is a mobo with a 24-pin power connector and the PS used is conventional 20-pin ATX? The mobo supports both, but could this be the reason for the odd voltage readings?

After searching the Gigabyte CD folder-by-folder, I found something called "MMC" which is supposed to give voltage readings, but that SOB does nothing on this mobo!! I entered it on the XP MMC Console, and there's NO DATA for it!! Obviously it's only for OTHER GB mobos!! I also found something called "EasyTune5" which DOES report voltages....but what voltages?? The ones that are NOT in question! It only reports the +3.3v, +12v, and the CPU voltage! So, what this possibly tells me is this mobo is not capable of reporting the negative voltage, +5v, or stand-by voltage specs, like it's not supposed to do this since these figures don't even show up in the one HW monitoring utility by GB I could find!

Am I the ONLY person at this forum with a 945 chipset LGA775 Gigabyte mobo??
