Increasing wireless range

At our holiday house my neighbour is kindly letting us use their wireless internet. The range is however not great so the speed is laggy. So I am wondering how i could increase the range of the reception from my laptop. I have heared of the pringles box method to increase the range from the router, but i cant really do that since i dont think my neighbours would appreciate it.

Would an external (PCMCIA or whatever its called) do the trick? Is there any way of buying a cable that would extend from my laptop to the line of sight of the wireless router?

Thanx

The pringles can method can be used on either end (preferably both) if you have right connectors. Make the antenna well (it must be millimeter perfect) and attach it to your laptop. You will want a Linksys wireless card to connect it to - handily, the Linksys will also let you boost transmit power to make up for the lack of a good antenna on the other end.

I know you're new (on checking, I'm newer than you 🙂 but you don't post), but next time use the search function or go through a few pages of threads - it seems like I answer this question at least once a week, and Jack does it every day.

Thanx guys, i actually did a search, but couldnt find nything, guess i wasnt using the right search words, sorry bout that. I just read through the first couple of pages here n read about the guy in the appartement complex. Guess ill try the card first n see how it goes
