I have successfully performed the indicated modifications on the Linksys WAP11 (revision 1.1) access point and have noticed an improvement (also switched channels, tweaked location, but I would like to think maybe that mod helped a little).

Does anyone know if its possible to increase the transmit power of the Linksys Wireless PC Card?

WOW! That's a very interesting thread!

Has anyone here tried this?

I'm very interested in the possibility of this working on the SMC wireless router too... that would be awesome!!! Has anyone tried it!? Maybe someone could put together some better instructions than what's being thrown around over there, since they are our "enemies" and we must one-up them! (at least until the end of February) 😀

Edit: Oops, I guess there is already a detailed explanation of doing this same thing at the links noted on the first post. Sorry! 🙂

Regards,

I have successfully modified my Linksys WAP11. After increasing all channels to full power, the effective range outdoors LOS is about trippled. Using a measuring wheel I can now go 1800 feet from the house (Access Point in window facing that direction) and have 60% signal quality at 5.5MBPS when I hold the notebook up in the air.

Prior to the modification I couldn't get more than 500 feet without losing the connection.

I did notice, however that by default my WAP11 was set for very low transmission power.

I just wish there was a way not to tweak the access PC card in my notebook to help out the other end of the situation...
