Increasing Radeon Cooling?

I have a Radeon 9700np, I was wondering if it would make a big difference in temps if I removed the heatsink and wiped off the old thermal compound and put some Arctic Silver 3 or Shin Etsu compound on it instead. I want to switch to the new zalman passive heat pipe cooler but i'm strapped for cash so just looking for inexpensive ways increase cooling.

why? are you going to overclock?

cheesy solution would be to get one of those zalman fan mounts. just a piece of metal that screws to the pci slot cover screw holes and holds a fan over the card area. you could also just bend a left over pci slot cover and make your own. drill hole to hold fan or glue.

If you are worried about cooling the first thing you should do is make sure you have a case with good cooling

I just oredered teh Antec 1080 AMG... it has a sidefan positioned directly over the AGP slot

yup. side intakes over cards do more then anything else you can really do for a videocard besides water cooling it. i got a 92mm over mine.

I do overclock it, I had it running 330/590 and it was running about 50c idle just want to knock off a few degrees. I want to get the new Zalman Heatpipe cooler and mount the 80mm fan on the side of it, Might do that next payday.
