Increasing airflow/cooling for laptop..

I have an HP xf328 which intermittently shuts down when it gets too warm..is there any way to cool it down so it doesn't heat up too much?

I would remove the keyboard and other necessary components to get to the CPU. Remove CPU heatsink, clean heatsink, remove all dust, reapply thermal goop, and you'll probably be good to go.

I use one of these which really helps air flow around my laptop.

fbrdphreak gave some good advice also. Be sure that you know where the air vents are on your machine and don't block them.

I second using thermal paste. Most laptop OEMs use god awful thermal pads. I've replaced the thermal pads on all my laptop with arctic silver 5 and it does make a difference. Just take your time while taking apart the laptop to get to CPU.
