increased temps of 3-4C going from 255 fsb to 285fsb?

Hi..I have Neo 2 Plat with a A64 3200 with XP90, AS5 a Vantec Stealth 92mm fan..very quiet

at 255x10 with vcore of 1.5v w/8.3% over vid I get 1.55v/1.57 idle 1.58v load temp idle 37/38c load 50-52c..7hrs of prime95 when I stopped it

bumped up fsb to 9x285 same vcore got idle 41c and 54/55C load ...these are core center temps....after 1 hr of prime95

when I tried 10x260 with vcore 1.475 w 10% over vid..my temps 38c idle and load 52/51C....load was for about 30 min and prime 95 crashed

why are temp so much higher with 25+ increase in fsb..seems strange???

if I run at 9x285 would idle 41c and load 55c be too high???

Well, your ram will get hotter, as will any other chips that are running faster. This will increase case temps, which will increase CPU temps. Plus, the "FSB" controller is built into the CPU on the A64, isn't it?

I think. 😀

yes the memory controller is on the cpu...but why would I get no increase going from 250 to 260 or 270 but then see a 3-4 C rise at 285...seems very odd to me

Funny thing is case temp showed no changes

I don't really know. The only thing I can think of is that until you went to 285, your heatsink and fan were handling the heat easily, around 285 you began to get near the limit of the cooler's ability to remove heat.

No..I doubt that ..have you seen the XP90..it is huge....note the delta from idle to load is still only about 15C

When you are forcing the proccessor to run faster, it is going to generate more heat, would you not expect it too? Don't you think your cars engine would generate more heat if you were driving at 100mph, compared to 55mph???

wow..thanks..except 9x285=2565 vs 10x255=2550..virtually the same speed..so the cpu is not going to generate much difference

anyway..it seems t ohave been an errant temp read...now the temps are the same at 9x285 as 10x255..go figure very strange

Probably has to do with the ambient temp of the room or any factor that can change the temp slightly. Honestly it really doesnt matter as long as you're under 55C.

If you think the XP-90 is huge, you should see the XP-120!
