We all know that in 2004, a very smart (even if you hate the man) Karl Rove helped derive a strategy to get anti gay-marriage propositions/laws/etc on some state's November ballot. This energized the religious right to come out and vote, and may have won GWB his re-election.

In the wake of the Colorado incident, both extremes are rallying for their cause. NRA, and Far-left Democrats.

Schumer even tried to slip anti-gun measures in to a cyber-security bill. (Haybusa made a thread about this)

Here is the problem for Obama, and even he knows this: The 2nd amendment is not a (D)/(R) issue like gay rights, abortion, single-payer healthcare, etc.

Moderate Republicans, Independents, and Democrats all make up the NRA, or support the cause, either through hunting, personal protection, or the love of shooting.

If the the far-left (D)s start pushing gun control, it may be just enough to sway some moderate democrats and a large amount of independents towards a seemingly moderate republican in Romney.

The NRA is rallying the troops for November, but something tells me the anti-gun side's hysteria will calm within the next couple weeks, just like after Columbine, VT, etc.

This may be the issue that drives people to the booth, and if the Democrats are smart, they will keep quiet until after November.

This thread isn't about if you agree with additional gun control (already 50 of those). I am trying to point out that we finally may have come across the issue that brings people out.
