Increase Wireless Signal downstairs?

I have a linksys wireless router with a 4port switch built in.

I have two desktop computers and an Xbox upstairs that all use regular ethernet cables.

I have two laptops that I use downstairs to surf the net.

I can get a signal downstairs from the router, but it is not very strong. I want to know how to increase the signal in the cheapest way possible. I use roadrunner (cable) internet service. The cable modem connects to the wall upstairs near the computers / xbox.

I know linksys makes a bigger antenna that i can connect to my router, but those are very expensive. I know linksys makes a signal booster that you plug into a power socket, but those are also very expensive.

Would either of these be good alternatives or is there something else you might recommend?

Thanks
