Here is the situation - I downloaded some multi-part RAR files using a news server who does not have good completeness on many of the groups. I failed to notice when downloading the files that they were missing parts, so now I have a ton of incomplete RAR files, way more than I could recover with the associated set of PARs.

I have an account on another server that has pretty much 100% completeness on most groups. My question is, is there any way to specify to download only certain parts of a RAR file instead of the whole thing?

I am using newsleecher and when you right click on the RAR file's entry in the newsgroup's article listing, and go to properties, it will show you the individual parts that compose the rar file. Is there a way to download individual parts?

Now that you have the files, nope, you can't go back and fill in the missing sections. However, you can set up any decent newsreader software to use two or more servers. By setting server priorities the software will grab all available parts from the primary server, then grab the missing pieces from the backup server(s). That will give you complete files while using as little download quota as possible from the backups. It won't help with the files you already have, but it will prevent you from being in the same boat in the future.

You could of course go back and by using the two-server method re-download enough complete .rars to allow the pars to recover the rest.
