do you have to pay taxes on income from selling plasma?

edit - changed donating to selling, might as well call a spade a spade.

If you make more than $600 in a year you had to in Minnesota. Not sure if it's only state, or if it's federal as well.

Theoretically yes. Just like selling crap on ebay is supposed to be taxed. BUt no one will catch you if you dont, unless you're giving out your SSN.

I think you have to give your SSN when filling out paperwork at the plasma place. They send in the information if you go over $600 to the IRS. It should be in your initial paperwork when you signed up, or just ask the place you go to.

Most blood banks require SS#.

However, unless you make more than $600 (overall) you will NOT BE REQUIRED to report it.

The blood banks will only provide an SS# under an audit.

Some "professionals" to try to skirt the rules, using multiple banks to reduce the risk of any given bank reporting the $600 in compensation under an audit.

Other banks have little scruples and do not either ask or check SS# to ensure that they are valid for the person.

I rarely notice mine, it's pretty small. I think someone else would have to look pretty closely to see it.

when I was like 7 i was climbing around my dad's truck and it got caught on a piece of metal.

I didn't even know it had happend. Not at all. My dad was driving, looked down and saw a HUGE pool of blood expanding out of my crotch and BOOKED it to the emergency room. That Datsun 4 banger truck must have gotten to over 100 mph. All is well, got some stiches, they boys are intact, plumbing works... I am one of the few people who has actually seen one of his own testicles however! Now there's a fine white line, a half circle scar, prominently on one side.

This story made me cringe. *shudders*

imagine getting stiches down there. I remember that hurting like hell, the needle going right in 6 times with no drugs to kill the pain.

Me - "this is not right, its the size of a baseball now and the pain is unbearable"

Me - "POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
girl - "call 911"

Bleeding profusely from my now ruptured artery/vein.

LOL, i never had that problem. I only had one bad experience, and the chick put the needle completely through my vein. I told her something is wrong and no blood is pumping out. She said it's fine. I said no it isn't and it's starting to hurt. A little bubble started to form, so she removed the needle. Tried the other arm but couldn't get a good enough flow going. So i walked out after 20 mins with my money. :D

Why would I sue?

It was my own dumbass that didn't pull the needle out.

well, if a medical professional screws up, you question it, and they say you're fine, that's a major screw up. Just getting into that situation they damaged you, whether you should have pulled the needle out or not (probably) would be a factor, but they still made the original mistake.

nope, I made the choice to donate.

I didn't pull the needle out of my arm.

They are not at fault. I am responsible for my own actions and choices.
