Incessant Rebooting

BuildingMyOwn

Hey folks, I am completely new to building a PC. My computer either refuses to power on, or powers on after some random number of pushes to the power on button or shifting of the case (antec sx1030), or reboots itself at various point of installing windows 2000. Also, in one case, my roommate claims that he has seen the computer powering itself up for no apparent reason (even when the system was powered down, but remained plugged into the power strip).

I have checked all the connections at least over a dozen times. Everything is tight and secure and in the right places. All the devices have no trouble getting powered on when the power button works. Any ideas on what could be the cause of the fickle nature of the powering on?

I have an Abit k7t raid board. Installed on the mobo is a Santa Cruz sound card, Hollywood Plus Decoder, Elsa GeForce2 and a linksys ethernet card. I have 3 80mm antec fans and a 120mm sunon fan installed.

I have a similar problem with my KT7-RAID powering up on it's own. My post is titled It's Alive!: Computer powers up on it's own. This problem is still unsolved however. Maybe together we can get to the bottom of this mystery.

I don't know exactly what could be the cause of the problem, but I'm about ready to blame the motherboard, since I've had other problems that may be motherboard related. For example, my mouse occasionally has the jitters, and it hangs on POST when I have the USB to my "APC Back-UPS Pro 500 USB" connected. Bad quality components might be the cause of this.

I bought mine about two months ago from Multiwave Direct. Could it be a bad batch?
