I attempted to install PowerQuest Drive Image Special Edition from the Fujitsu Lifebook B Series Driver and Applications Restore CD. The installation failed unexpectly and I received an error message.

The computer then rebooted. At first everything looked fine. However, immediately after the Windows screen, I get the blue screen of death and an error message which reads STOP: 0x0000007B "Inaccessible_Boot_Device" .

Now I cannot access my hard drive or boot my computer up. I've tried safe mode, etc. I am not too happy about this. This unit is running Windows 2000 Pro.

Currently, I cannot boot from the floppy disk, as the seller did not send me the necessary hardware. I think I'm just out of luck until I can boot from the A drive. I have a PC Card external CD Rom, but I don't see how to boot from it.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you can't boot from CD or floppy you might consider picking up an adapter to use your laptop drive in a standard PC.

I don't have a standard CD. Besides, there is no info that I care about on this particular laptop, so I could care less if I have to reinstall the OS, format or whatever. It's just that I don't see a way (now without a floppy drive) to get past this error or boot Win2000 from CD ROM to repair/recover.

I am currently lead to believe that Fujitsu are currently facing a class action for their sale and contlinued distribution of very poor quality hard disks. What i think has happend to your hard disk is that it has died, or part of it has died, a part of your disk that Windows XP is trying to install data onto. Any how get the money back on the hard disk and go and get a WD or a Seagate bacause if you have it replaced with a Fujitsu drive you will have similar problems.

I disagree.

A STOP 0x7B means there's something wrong in the driver stack for the hard drive. Causes of this would include otman5.sys (Veritas open transaction manager), various versions of Roxio/Adaptec CD burning software, and any drivers that PowerQuest may have put in there.

It can typically be fixed by laying down a parallel install and mounting the registry of the dead OS from the parallel OS. But describing the process here is not easy. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811408 will probably fix the problem.
