Hi,

Last night when I turned on my computer, I got a BSOD saying: STOP: 0x0000007B .... Inaccessible_Boot_Device.

This computer have windows 2000 installed and it just suddenly got this message. The partitions are formatted using FAT32, and I was able to boot using a DOS floppy and browse its content. There weren't any weird message in the BIOS detection or during POST and I'm kinda stuck here. There are about 100 MB worth of important files I need to find a way to back it up, or fix the computer.

Please help, TIA

Hmmm. That is a really odd error. Perhaps your mbr (master boot record) has been editted or damaged. You may want to restore the mbr or just get into a dos prompt and type: fdisk /mbr. By fdisking your mbr you are deleting it, but win2k will automatically create a new one.

You will run into problems though if you dual boot between different OSes because win2k will only create a new mbr for its self and you would have to manually edit it to give you different OS options.

You may want to hold off on the above option until you get a few more options.

I would have said that you may want to check to make sure you cables and all are connected properly, but from your post it sounds like you are able to browse the HD.

I get the same message though my circumstances are different.

I already have Win98se installed ,I installed Win2k as an additional OS ,all seemed fine until I went to start Win2k ,then I get the BSOD with the above mentioned error.Win 98se is still ok (I'm using it now).

Scandisk & Norton disk doctor show no faults(incl surface test)
I can't run chkdsk as the error message suggests, the 1 in Win98 says it hasnt checked the disk & tells you to use scandisk. The 1 in win2k can't run in windows98 or DOS.

In another forum there was a mention of the problem being the IDE drivers ,& in his case he needed to install the RAID drivers before installing.
My system has no additonal IDE controllers.
I have just updated the bios to v1007 ,made no difference.
If I run Win2k setup now it wants to format my C Drive! ,I don't want it too!

Go to my fleet sig for info on my rig (Ath XP rig)

Anyone got any ideas?
TIA:)
